ACCESSORIES: IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS…

June 19, 2008 – 3:01 am

Just because it’s summer does not mean that a man shouldn’t look pulled together and polished. Accessories are the key to a sophisticated look. And they can also be an outfits undoing. What we know is this; women judge other women by their purses and their shoes. The first thing I notice about a man (other than his face, butt and pecs) is his shoes. Then his watch.

Let’s talk the essential men’s accessories; Watches. Shoes. Bags/totes. Sunglasses. Fragrance.

It is so important for a man to wear a good watch. That doesn’t mean you must break the bank. When in doubt go big, go stainless. A good stainless watch from Timex to Tag Heuer to Rolex, can be worn sporty or dressed up. In the past few seasons companies like Diesel and Red Monkey have been doing funky watches in metal and leather. They each boast large even 60s/70s looking faces which read a bit hip and high-tech. Speaking of high-tech, if you are looking for something a little whimsical try a Casio G-Shock. I own two, one in baby blue and one in black. They are solar powered, feature 48-city world time, LED light, and a countdown timer.

Summer is a tough season for shoes. Most guys toss on a pair of Havaianas and blast out the door. If you must wear flip flops (which I view as giving up unless you are at the beach) please get a pedicure. And a foot and toe wax. There are few things worse than crusty, callused heels, overgrown toenails and hair on the tops of a man’s feet and toes. Most importantly nothing is sexier than well-groomed feet. For summer go with a pair of slip-on sneakers. Not Vans, especially if you are over 18. Why not try classics from Izod or Sperry? Or go high-end chic with Marc by Marc Jacobs and Bottega Veneta or hip and trendy and yes, silver woven, by Boss Orange. Another super stylish option is to go old-school and try nylon Nike Cortese or Puma Anjans in a great color like dark red or baby blue with black. These work with everything from jeans to chinos to trousers to a suit. For anything else in summer don’t stray from the basics. Suede brogues work. So do bucks and if you must wear hard shoes go classic with round-toed lace-ups or oxfords.

The man purse. No we don’t refer to it as that! Every guy has to have a tote of some sort to carry their lives in. Summer is hard because with less layers; i.e. blazers or jackets, you have less pockets. Now you can go all-out-over-the-top-genius-glam and do the $65,000 crocodile-leather attache from Gucci. Okay who can do that? Or you can do the Prada black satchel bag with brown leather straps (LOVE!). It’s $2,120 and lovely. The most utilitarian of all the bags is the messenger. Jack Spade makes a fantastic one. It’s nylon so it’s sturdy, has lots of pockets on the inside and is perfect to use to tote your laptop.

bags

One must-have summer essential is a hot pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses, shades, specs, whatever you call them, you must have a pair. Actually you need a couple. Finding the right pair is easy. First look at the shape of your face. Round faces should stay away from too round. Look for styles that are angular or rectangle. A square face consists of a strong jaw, a broad forehead and wide cheekbones. Look for styles that will give the face some definition like round or oval. 2 good rules of thumb when looking for shades? Sunglasses should be in proportion to the size of your face. Small face, small glasses. Large face? Larger sunglasses are best. The second rule is the frame shape should contrast the shape of the face.

You can never go wrong with aviators. Almost any face can carry this classic shape. Try Michael by Michael Kors or the Italia Independent black plastic aviators with a keyhole detail.

I consider fragrance an accessory. You put it on and it adds that extra special something to an outfit. Every man should have a signature scent. He should also change it up seasonally. For summer you definitely want to go lighter than a musky fall/winter scent. A summer scent should be fresh. No one wants to smell like everyone else so stay away from anything Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren and don’t even think about going old school like Grey Flannel or Lagerfeld. Spend some time at the fragrance bar and look for new. Gendarme Sky is a great new scent. It has notes of sweet lime, green lemon, magnolia flower and Asian pepper oil. It’s sexy without being too musky. My personal favorite summer scent is Cereus #4. With a zest of crisp green apple it has a unique blend of citrus while papyrus rounds out the body of the fragrance. Another great scent to try is Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme Marine. It has hints of grapefruit and white cedar. It’s light and fresh, almost an afterthought which is just what you want a scent to be. Cologne shouldn’t announce your arrival nor linger after you are gone.

So that’s it men. It’s all about the extras. The things that set you apart from everyone else. True style is taking a look, adding to it and making it your own.

SPRING/SUMMER 2008 - THE SEASONS BIG FASHION TRENDS

March 2, 2008 – 6:59 pm

Kors

Spring has sprung. Simply because I’m tired of fall/winter. I’m pushing my clients forward. I know…I know… It’s still snowing in the Midwest & on the East Coast. And we’re water-logged in La La Land. But the clothes are so cute for Spring!

This is how we shop:
NOW is what we must have right away. What we must run out & buy…Today.
AGAIN is what we already own & can be incoporated into our Spring wardrobe.
DONE is what is over. Put it away. Give it away. Sell it @ Crossroad’s in Santa Monica.

NOW:

Whitepants

Flat front, flair-legged pants in khaki or white. If you are a woman get them with a wide cuff. Michael Kors & Chloe have amazing slacks and so does Old Navy. For men, look for no cuffs from Trina Turk.

Men

2 massive trends; brights & safari emerged huge during fashion week. From Louis Vuitton & Gucci patent leather stilettos & purses to Versace’s orange jersey, it’s all about color.

Brights

When Old Navy does safari it usually means it’s over but it just started & honestly never goes away. Brown looks chicer than ever. Pair brown leather accessories with white cream & khaki for an instant jolt of now.

Shoes
YSL/Prada

Shoes!!!!! It’s all about stilettos with platform fronts (YSL), shoes with interesting, architectural and detailed heels (Prada started it last season) and gladiator sandals (which btw never go away).

Woven

Woven accessories are a must. Cole Haan’s Genevieve Collection Triangle Tote is gorgeous. But when you talk woven you must reference Bottega Venetta. Woven bags & belts look great for spring and when paired with the safari trend couldn’t be more au courant.

And the newest face, the model I can’t see enough of is 16 year old German sensation, Toni Garrn. She is the current face of Calvin Klein Collection. She’s a cool mix of Claudia Schiffer meets Nadja Auermann with a lil Kate tossed in.

Spring4new

AGAIN:
Skinny, dark denim. Will it ever fade? It just works. We flirted with the wide-legged trouser jean. Yeah we pulled out a boot-cut Earnest Sewn on the fat days after the Holidays but when all is said and done just give me my skinny, slightly too long Habituals.

Animal print always works. Daytime. Night. Leopard or tiger. Hell even giraffe is sexy. What doesn’t work is cow. Who wants to look like a cow?

Animalprint

Leather jackets whether bomber or motorcycle are the perfect toss-on for spring. They add edge to any outfit. If you don’t own one invest in a brown or black jacket cut close to the body (ala Michael Kors).

DONE:
Tall boots are history. Every short, fat girl in the world is wearing a high boot. While @ Beverly Center today many girls wore tights, yes tights not leggings, with shorts and high boots. It looked stupid & pedestrian. When a trend hits “critical mass” & every girl in line @ Wet Seal, H&M and Forever 21 is working it, it’s over.

Leggings are done! Alicia Keys looked a hot, steamy mess in that shiny legging @ the Grammys. They are relegated back to the soccer mom wearing them with over-sized sweatshirts. Basta. Finito. No mas.

The Marc Jacobs ad campaign with Victoria Beckham is an abomination. Too tan. Too thin. Not photogenic. Ill-conceived. Does anyone find the Beckhams @ all relevant? David is only when naked. And Marc, it’s time to move on from Juergen Teller shooting the ads. These campaigns aren’t hip or modern any longer.

Done

And while I’m discussing what’s over let’s talk models. The Victoria Secret girls are done. Gisele I love you, take a break. Heidi in Jordache? Why? And the girl who does the current Rock & Republic campaign? Looks like a girl that got cut from ANTM. The 1st week. These aren’t fashion girls. They only make sense pushing knickers. But what do I know? Gisele made over $30,000,000 last year.

FASHION & STYLE @ A GLANCE: FASHION’S MUST READ BOOKS

February 21, 2008 – 11:26 pm

Movies

As a fashion stylist I need to know what I’m talking about. I voraciously scour international fashion mags, the net, TV, films, both classic & current, searching for inspiration. I also read. Fashion bios are a passion. Books and mags stylishly litter my home.

Here are a few of my favourite books:
The Fashion Book - Phaidon. It doesn’t just cover decades of designers, it also covers fashion personalities. Small in scale, it’s like Cliff Notes for style.

Tomford

Tom Ford - Rizzoli International. Tom is one of the world’s great designers. This wondrous, over-sized coffee table book proves he’s not just a designer but a tastemaker, responsible for re-invigorating legendary fashion house Gucci & shaping the face of fashion advertising in the 90s.

Best Movies Of The 70s - Taschen. This is part of a series: …50s, 60s, 70s… They are each great! As a stylist movies are a major inspiration to me. Who can get past the original Stepford Wives? Or Ali MacGraw’s waspy, schoolgirl chic in Love Story? The modern, futuristic sleek of Bladerunner (my fave)? Jane Fonda as a hooker in Klute, which was referenced in almost every NY show this season? The books amaze with behind the scenes anecdotes on actors, directors & the real stars; the movies themselves.

Fashion Now - Taschen. Taschen partnered with the editors of i-D (the super cool British style bible) to select 150 of the world’s most important designers. The book is visual fashion, eye-candy. Yummy.

Kellywearstler

Domicilium Decoratus - Regan Books. Kelly Wearstler is an interior design rock star. Gorgeous. Talented. The way she mixes styles, decades, colors, textures… It’s dizzying. The book is a feast for the eyes & a treasure trove of home decor ideas. And did I say Kelly is a fox?

Lanvin - Rizzoli NY. The legendary French couture house deserves a tome this gorgeous. The book covers the entire history of Madame Lanvin’s work & fashion line from 1909 until now. But it really gets good during the “Enter Alber” section towards the end. Current designer Alber Elbaz is a genius. Period.

Lanvinguccibag

And last but by no means least:
Deluxe: How Luxury Lost It’s Luster - Penguin Press. Dana Thomas’ book is a behind-the-scenes-tell-all on the culture of fashion & commerce. Have you ever wondered if your vintage Gucci mombasa was made in Italy? Odds are it was assembled in China (gasp!) and shipped to Italy where they put the handle on & voila! Made In Italy. This book is sick with the inner workings of high-end fashion. A must read for true fashionistas.

All of these book are great reads and (with the exception of Deluxe) are visually stunning. Give the gift of reading… And fashion.

BEST DRESSED WOMEN 2007

January 8, 2008 – 5:13 am

Hottiesnew
Jennifer Lopez/Cate Blanchett/Nicole Kidman

It’s tough being a girl. Not that I know… I can only surmise. But c’mon guys have it easy; shave, shower, toss on a white shirt & a dark suit & bounce. With women the choices are endless. It’s all about prep. And execution.

These are the ladies who pulled it all together & looked ridiculously chic while doing it. The best dressed women of 2007:

Hayden
Hayden Panettiere/Carolina Herrera

10) Hayden Panettiere - No nude cell pics (Vanessa), No leaked porn tapes (Paris) & most importantly No stupid scarves wrapped around her neck (Lindsay) or huge purses overwhelming a too tiny frame (MK/Ashley). Heroes sucked this season but Hayden rose glam-ly above. Hayden is like a wonderful starlet from the past… Like Judy or Elizabeth. Always turned out perfectly dressed & sweetly coiffed.

9) Milla Jovovich - The hottest Model-Actress in the game. Her movies don’t do well but no one gives face & outfits like Milla. And her fashion line Jovovich-Hawk is covetable. J’adore her in the Chanel ads…

Milla
Milla Jovovich

8) Sofia Coppola - The queen of the cool girls. Marc’s best gal pal is a talented filmmaker, Hollywood royalty & mixes vintage, designer & new labels unlike anyone else. She is year in & year out one of the world’s most stylish women.

Sofia
Sofia Coppola

7) Jessica Alba - I’m not a fan of her as an actor per se. Has she been good in a movie yet? Wait…I did like her in Sin City. Anyway she dresses like a lady & does easy, breezy, beautiful better than any other young actress in La La Land.

Jessica
Jessica Alba

6) Naomi Campbell & Liya Kebede - Two of the top models in the world. Two of the best bodies in the business. Two of the chicest girls ever. When everything looks good on you, this is how you should wear it.

Naominew
Naomi Campbell/Liya Kebede (inset)

5) Jennifer Lopez - Please ignore that horrid Roberto Cavalli designed nightmare she wore in concert. Please refer to the wonderful white gown she wore to the 2007 Movies Rock event. She looked like a goddess.

4) Nicole Kidman - 3 words: RED BALENCIAGA DRESS.
Cue Carly: Nobody does it better… Makes me feel sad for the rest… Nobody does it half as good as you… Baby, you’re the best.

3) Rachel Roy - No I didn’t say Ray (who desperately needs a make-better), I said Roy. Remember this name. She’s not just Damon Dash’s exotic wife. Rachel Roy is gorgeous. She exudes style & oozes class. And I love when a designer doesn’t limit herself to wearing her own designs, even though her line is fantastic. She just looks rich. And chic.

Rachelroy1

2) Cate Blanchett - Beautiful. Intelligent. Strong. Witty. All the things she brings to her performances she brings to her amazing personal style. An awesome Aussie.

1) Kate Moss - Kate is a modern muse. Shrunken blazers, vintage designer, clutches, flats, skinny jeans, menswear; if she didn’t start a trend she wore it better & before anyone else. More covers, more campaigns & more personal style than anyone. Period.

Moss
Kate Moss

So there you have 11 women who made it easy to look glorious in 2007. If I had more slots I’d add Lisa Airan, Keira Knightley, Carolina Herrera & her daughter Junior, Renee Zellweger, Michelle Obama & toss in a little Queen Rania of Jordan too.

BEST DRESSED MEN 2007

December 20, 2007 – 11:50 pm

Top
Zac Posen, Dirty, Sexy Money, Tom Ford

It’s the end of 2007 and it’s time for those annoying “Best Of” and “Worst Of” lists. My least fave of that ilk has always been Mr. Blackwell’s Best and Worst Dressed Lists. I’ve always wondered, “Who the hell is this guy?” And then you see the photos of him and you wonder, “How in the hell can he judge anyone?” I mean… Mr. Blackwell could end up atop one of his own lists. And not the Best Dressed one.

So I did some research (Google) and discovered he was born in 1922, was an actor, agent and successful fashion designer. He’s also one of the first openly gay men to do fashion commentary. Simply put he deserves respect. Imagine the level of bravery it took for him to be him. To be out on TV and in the media. He blazed the way for “gay style guys”: Cojo, Robert, Carson, Sam and now, me.

Thank you Mr. Blackwell. For your class, bravery and in his own special way trying to make the world more beautiful.

In the spirit of Mr Blackwell’s list I would like to do my own. Why? Because I wanna. Because I can. And because Mr. Blackwell did it in a time when it wasn’t as easy as typing a few words and clicking “post”! So, in a more modern 2007 blog-on-the-internet kinda way, I’m doing what he did.

Without further ado;
MARCELLAS’ 10 BEST DRESSED MEN OF 2007.

Terrence

10) Terrence Howard - To me Terrence is like the Black George Clooney. This is an actor who has been around for ages and truly paid his dues. And much like George he’s a man of a certain age who has come into himself and has presence and style. Yes, often he’s a bit too “b-boy” (which is age inappropriate) but when he gets it right he’s dead on.

Blake

9) James Blake - The Davis Cup winning African-American tennis star. This is what a star looks like. I’m waiting for him to drop his tennis racquet and start making movies. He is gorgeous and dresses impeccably in a world where an ill-fitting blazer thrown over a t-shirt is considered chic.

8) Justin Timberlake - Who doesn’t love Justin? The voice. The body. Everything looks great on him. I love that in a casual age he still manages to take real, classic menswear elements (vest and ties.. and yes even fedoras) and make them look modern. One word of caution JT; enough with the sneakers and suits. You are 25…

Timber

7) Gabriel Aubry - What is about the Canucks? Another Canadian who is physically perfect and has great personal style. Gabriel has been one of the top male models in the World for years. He’s taken that lesson to heart. He’s always polished and amazingly put together. The perfect accessory for a movie star. Good on you Halle!

Hally

6) The men of Dirty Sexy Money - Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland, Blair Underwood, William Baldwin. There was a scene a couple weeks ago when the men were having cigars and brandy in the study @ Valhalla and Donald Sutherland was wearing a ruby velvet robe, sherbet shirt and pink tie… Wait I digress. I know this has less to do with the actors and more to do with the costume designers but the men on this series dress wonderfully. I find myself week after week not only wondering when Billy Baldwin’s character is gonna get busted with the tranny but also where Peter Krause’s got that tie.. And briefcase.. And suit…

5) Tom Ford - What can you say about the man that made an aging fashion house (Gucci) relevant for the millennium and beyond? Tom’s personal style is minimal, sexy, polished and reeks of confidence. And his new menswear line? Fantastic.

4) Jude Law - This Brit export is not only a talented actor he is classic old-Hollywood style. When you see Jude you think of Clark Gable, Cary Grant and Gregory Peck. He dresses on and off set like a man should.

3) Zac Posen - A designer to watch, Zac dresses incredibly old-school. You get the feeling when you see him he’s done his research and his presentation isn’t by chance. I love how tailored he is without looking costume-y or stodgy.

Becks

2) David Beckham - It doesn’t hurt that his face and body are epic. Becks looks amazing in and out of clothes. His style is totally trendy, sorta over-the-top, definitely girly, a bit Euro-trash yet somehow he makes it work. And that is what true style is about; taking risks and looking good.

1) Brad Pitt - All you have to do is rent any one of the Ocean’s movies. My fave is Ocean’s 11. Brad’s wardrobe in that movie is insane. Clothes are meant to be worn by him. And I love how he dresses off set. He’s not afraid of accessories; a good watch, great shoes, pocket squares. Simple, clean, tailored. And he wears a ton of J. Lindberg. It seems he knows what looks great on him. Everything.

Brad

So there it is, MARCELLAS’ BEST DRESSED MEN LIST 2007. Just remember behind every well-dressed man there is (probably) a stylist who is probably gay. I’m just saying.

CLEAN UP YOUR ACT…SKIN CARE SECRETS OF THE STARS.

November 26, 2007 – 1:44 am

Mmarcelas0123001

I just had a birthday. A big one. Not too big. And besides as the saying goes, “Black don’t crack.” Or does it? I’ll never know. I intend to look like this till the last drugstore (or Costco) sells their last potion. But in my case I usually find it @ Barneys New York or Sephora. It might seem a bit girlie to do more than wash your face with a bar of Zest but so what…Gay, straight or somewhere in between; looking good is kinda all that matters.

The basics: Wash it, exfoliate it, and moisturize it.
FACE/ Wash it. Any good skin care regimen begins with a good cleanser. If you have dry skin cleanse with a creamy (keep it clean) cleanser that won’t strip your skin of it’s essential oils and over dry you. Oily skin? You want to go with a gel cleanser that has a little alpha-hydroxy or salicylic acid to help clear and stabilize your pores. If you have sensitive skin look for a fragrance free, hypo-allergenic cleanser that won’t cause break outs.

My fave cleanser:
DDF Glycolic Exfoliating Wash. I use it almost everyday. It has glycolic acid with a gently foaming action for both face and body. For normal to oily skin, it helps minimize oil and remove dead skin cells that clog pores, impede moisturization and make the skin look dull and lifeless. And unlike some cleansers with glycolic acid it doesn’t sting or over dry. Top Dermatologic Surgeon Dr. Howard Sobel, who has a great spa in NYC, started this line. He’s the man to go to for botox. If you’re from the West Coast get work done on the East Coast and you won’t bump into that cute guy you tried to pick up @ Mr. Chow the other night.

0112233101

I also like:
Sharps Daily Prep Concentrated Foaming Wash. It boasts oatmeal extract which soothes, aloe vera extract that hydrates, and Vitamin B5 which conditions. It lightly exfoliates and tones. A word about Sharps mens skincare; I love this line! The packing is so cool, kinda retro and very masculine. I doesn’t scream “GIRL!” like something ya momma (or fag hag) would use by Lancome or Clinique. My big crush, David Duchovny, uses the hair care products. So cute.

EXFOLIATE/Tone it up. This is a step that is often skipped and yeah it adds an extra five minutes to your time in the morning. How do I get around it? I exfoliate in front of the TV or while on the phone. It’s like flossing, you may not enjoy but you gotta do it. Exfoliation is literally helping the skin slough off dead skin cells revealing new ones trapped underneath. I use a toner 4 or 5 days a week and then a scrub @ least once a week.

My fave toner:
DDF 10% Glycolic Toner. It finishes the cleansing process by removing the skin of any leftover dead skin, make-up (you know who you are) and excess oil. I’m a glycolic junkie and 10% is a good percentage. I’m not an amateur. Beauty is pain so for me if it stings that means it’s working!

For the beginner/faint of heart:
Anthony Logistics Alcohol Free Toner. I like this line and again it looks masculine. The Anthony toner has highly concentrated aloe vera to retain moisture, calendula to soothe, chamomile to calm (no more tea baggin) and essential oil of grapefruit to revive. I guess the grapefruit is what removes the oil. If you have sensitive skin this one’s for you. It smells yummy too…Make an afternoon of it and pop by Kitson on Robertson to pick up the entire Anthony line. You may bump into Paris or Mischa or Lindsay. Actually the last time I was there it was a slow day (obviously) because the paparazzi was swarming Jaslene from America’s Next Top Model. I mean c’mon… Jaslene is no Britney.

MOISTURIZE/Lube it up. Now you might ask why use a toner to remove oil only to turn around and put it back on? Good damn question. One I’ve asked my dermatologist often. A good moisturizer should contain nutrients that are delivered right onto the skin. Also some moisturizers help minimize fine lines as well as wrinkles and can clear skin discoloration. Think of it like this, cleansing and exfoliation take away the bad and moisturizer puts in the good. Got it? Good.

Dd0012001

My fave moisturizer:
Sundari Cornflower Oil-Free Hydrator. This is a great lotion. It’s a matte hydrator, with rosemary extract and oil-absorbing horse chestnut bark extract, that leaves oily skin toned and smooth. I can be a little shiny so I like an oil-free moisturizer. Back in the day I worked for Sundari. I got to see Christy Turlington up close everyday. She’s not only physically beautiful, she’s beautiful and kind on the inside. If it’s good enough for Christy, it’s good enough for me.

Christyturlington

If I have a breakout:
Dr. Patricia Wexler’s Acnostat Overnight Acne Repair Lotion. I love this lotion when I’m looking dull or have a pimple. It’s light, has Acnostat (who knows what that is) skin-clearing complex to correct the oil and irritation of acne. It also has salicylic acid which promotes faster cell turnover and healing. Dr. Wexler’s products can be a little rich if you have oily skin but I know people who use them religiously and have seen the benefits. What do P. Diddy, Carolina Herrera and Donna Karan have in common? Yeah, they all rich. Yeah, they are all…ahem…designers. And yes they each trust their skin to Dr. Pat Wexler.

Now if you are a big girl or overly concerned with your looks or live in Hollywood like me you need to add a 2 things; eye cream and touch-ups/cover-ups.

I alternate 2 eye creams depending upon how much I drank the night before or how little sleep I got. I never repeat never leave the house without eye cream or go to bed without putting some on.

Didn’t get to sleep til 4 a.m.:
DDF Protective Eye Cream with SPF 15 Plus CoQ-10. It’s expensive and it’s worth it. It changed the game for me. On those days you wake up and the bags are deep, this is the go to product. It has vitamin K and anti-inflammatories that reduce puffiness. Think of it as really good Preparation-X. It also has SPF 15 so your dark circles won’t get any darker. This is the goods. I’d take this to a deserted island with me.

“Boy I put away a lot of Veuve last night”:
Kinerase Under Eye Rescue. The kinetin-rich cream immediately hydrates and smooths the under-eye area, while the peptide formula reduces the look of under-eye circles and puffiness. It’s a little rich so I use it @ night before bed. It works and it smells good too…I know you thought there was a picture of Courtney Cox locked in a closet aging somewhere ala The Picture Of Dorian Gray , but the true secret to her looks is the Kinerase line.

My skin is flawless. Period. So what I have my mom’s enlarged pores? The glycolic acid is helping with that. That said, I’m not a make-up boy unless I’m on camera. So find your own foundation. My big concerns are looking shiny and fading dark spots.

For shine control I use Sundari T-Zone Oil Control Treatment. It has a blend of purifying Burdock Extract and soothing Camphor to helps the skin achieve a smooth, matte finish. And it’s all about a matte face. Especially on men of color.

And if I have a blemish I use Nadinola Skin Discoloration Fade Cream. The extra strength formula. It has 3% Hydroquinone which is 1% more than you can get over the counter in California without a prescription. And it’s cheap as hell! You can find it on-line for anywhere from $5 to $8. It works like a dream. I use it on my elbows, knees and yes, my butt. And right on any scrapes or blemishes. It’s awesome!

So that’s it boys. If you wanna look good you gotta work @ it. Drink lots of water, eat right, work out and take care of your skin. After all it’s your biggest organ. Tee hee hee… I said organ.

TOP 5 MEN’S MUST-HAVES…FALL/WINTER 2008

November 9, 2007 – 10:37 pm

THIS IS FROM A NEW BI-WEEKLY COLUMN I WRITE FOR HOTINHOLLYWOOD.TV.

Manfashion012351

So lately I’ve been shopping like it’s my job. Well actually it is my job as a fashion stylist. But lately I’ve been shopping a lot for myself. I really don’t need anything. I mean I’m the boy that has everything. Except a boyfriend. What can you do? So what am I looking for? How about THE TOP 5 THINGS EVERY MAN SHOULD HAVE IN HIS WARDROBE?

And then the 3 things, ummm make that 5 things that are so TRENDY & FUN this season I must, must have them!

THE ESSENTIALS:
1) Flat front, light weight wool trousers in either dark gray, navy or black. You can dress them up or down. (There is never an excuse for pleats! Period. They make even the thinest guy seem like he has a gut.) Try J. Lindeberg, Theory and DKNY. The DKNY Soho cut is my fave and kinda cheap.

2) A pair of dark denim jeans (preferably Earnest Sewn or Marc by Marc Jacobs. Helmut Lang works too.) And no rips, minimal distressing or whiskering. That’s so 2002. You can wear jeans anywhere now, from work, to a fancy restaurant, to a nightclub. They work w/any outfit. Have you seen the latest Club Monaco ads? So chic; jeans with a white shirt and bow-tie.

3) White collared shirts. They look easily chic and effortless w/jeans or trousers. And tuck it in! If I see one more poseur Hollywood wanna be actor with his collars outside his jacket and shirt untucked… If you are really stylish, you wear French-cuffs w/the classic Tiffany “Cube” cuff links. So grown up.

4) A trench coat. Either classic tan or black. You can throw it over anything and look current. Every adult man and woman should own one. They are classic. And Christopher Bailey, the designer @ Burberry Prorsum is soooo hot.

5) Wing tips or cap toe lace-ups. Yeah I said wing tips but not the kind your dad used to wear (though vintage is hot). Retire the square toe shoe guys. You look like a wanna be. You know…the guy on the outside of the velvet rope. Check out the doorman. Odds are he’s wearing a pair of rounded toe wing tip lace-ups he got last weekend at Barneys. And if he isn’t you don’t wanna go to that club anyway.

Manfashion012352

THE FUN:
1) A pair of old-school gym shoes. My favorite: the Nike “Cortese”. I’m feeling Adidas “Gazelles” also! I collect them in fun colors.

2) This season I’m shelving my old-school gym shoes and buying the Lanvin Satin high tops or the metallic leather high tops. I got a pair from PF Flyers (yeah them) and they are to die for. I’ll wear them with my black double vented J. Lindeberg suit and look too hip for words.

3) 3 or 4 t-shirts w/characters or logos, in dark colors. Fun tees are great w/jeans and super cute under a blazer. But not if you have a gut. Nothing is worse than a guy with a gut wearing a “Hang In There Baby” kitty cat t-shirt. And for the record A & F tees don’t count especially if you are over 19 and neither does your UCLA college gym shirt.

4) A velvet blazer. Velvet is huge for fall! Velvet blazers never really go out of style. Choose a color like navy, green or burgundy or go classic with black. You can dress them up or down and look sharp either way.

5) A Chunky knit sweater. Yeah like your mom’s. Except she would wear it with leggings. And no, you can’t!

If you still have some cash left over: a dark, single-breasted, tropical weight wool blazer (goes with everything), a jean jacket (not too distressed), a dark solid tie, pocket squares and ascots, and a cashmere v-neck in black or gray. Oh and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner. ;)

MY NEWEST COVER…

October 10, 2007 – 2:30 am

It speaks for itself.

I’m crazy busy right now. Lots of meetings. I’m consulting on a fashion designers show for L.A. Fashion Week. That has proved to be an amazing catalyst for me. I’m starting my own business! Image consulting for fashion designers, retail stores and private clients. I’ve always been “Celebrity Stylist” Marcellas Reynolds but this expands on that. I’m so excited!

And who knows maybe this eligible bachelor thing will find me a husband…
